...WINTRY PRECIPITATION EXPECTED FRIDAY INTO THIS WEEKEND...

.A STRONG STORM SYSTEM CURRENTLY PUSHING ACROSS THE SOUTHWESTERN
U.S. WILL BRING MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF PRECIPITATION TO THE REGION. A
COLD FRONT WILL SLIDE SOUTH THROUGH THE AREA TODAY AND
TEMPERATURES WILL COOL BELOW FREEZING OVER WESTERN MISSOURI AND
EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS. PATCHY LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL BE POSSIBLE
ACROSS THIS AREA TODAY. THE IMPACTS FROM THIS DRIZZLE ARE EXPECTED
TO BE FAIRLY MINOR.

TWO HEAVIER ROUNDS OF PRECIPITATION WILL OCCUR STARTING LATE
TONIGHT AND AGAIN SATURDAY EVENING INTO SUNDAY MORNING. PERIODS
OF FREEZING RAIN WILL BE POSSIBLE TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY
MORNING NORTH OF INTERSTATE 44...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS NORTH
OF A COLUMBUS KANSAS TO OSAGE BEACH LINE. TEMPERATURES SHOULD
WARM SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING SATURDAY AFTERNOON...WITH FREEZING
RAIN CHANGING TO RAIN IN MOST PLACES SATURDAY AFTERNOON. IF
TEMPERATURES DO NOT WARM AS MUCH AS EXPECTED...MORE ICE COULD BE
POSSIBLE.

THE NEXT ROUND OF PRECIPITATION WILL OCCUR SATURDAY EVENING INTO
SUNDAY MORNING AS AN UPPER LEVEL LOW TRACKS ACROSS THE REGION
WITH RAIN CHANGING OVER TO SNOW. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WITH THIS
SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO JUST CLIP AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A
PITTSBURG KANSAS TO OSAGE BEACH MISSOURI LINE.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN AND THEN SNOW...WHICH IS IN
EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM CST SUNDAY.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...AREAS ROUGHLY NORTH AND WEST OF A
JOPLIN TO VICHY LINE FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

* SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW WILL PRIMARILY OCCUR NORTH
OF A PITTSBURG KANSAS TO OSAGE BEACH LINE SATURDAY NIGHT WHERE
ONE TO TWO INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL START TO DEVELOP
TONIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY MORNING WHERE TWO TENTHS TO A
QUARTER INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE.

* IMPACTS...ICE AND SNOW WILL LIKELY CAUSE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL
PROBLEMS BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING AND
THEN AGAIN SATURDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. ICE COULD
ALSO BUILD UP ON TREES AND POWER LINES WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME
POWER OUTAGES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE AND SNOW ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR
IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU.
THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...BOOSTER
CABLES...A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...EXTRA CLOTHING AND
ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME
