AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO

DISCUSSION...
/ISSUED 312 AM CDT FRI AUG 27 2010/

MAIN FOCUS IN THIS FORECAST PACKAGE WILL DEAL WITH WARMER
CONDITIONS THIS WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK...THEN ATTENTION
TURNS TO PRECIPITATION CHANCES DURING THE MIDDLE TO THE END OF
NEXT WEEK.

CURRENTLY...AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE IS BUILDING EAST ACROSS THE
CENTRAL PLAINS EARLY THIS MORNING...AS THE SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE
SLOWLY PUSHES EAST TOWARDS THE EAST COAST. THE HIGH PRESSURE
HAS PUSH FAR ENOUGH EAST THAT WINDS HAVE BECOME MORE SOUTHEASTERLY
ACROSS THE AREA. THE WINDS ARE STILL LIGHT ENOUGH THAT LOW
TEMPERATURES SHOULD STILL FALL INTO THE 50S ACROSS MUCH OF THE
AREA THIS MORNING...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE
CWA.

THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH EAST TODAY AND WILL
BECOME CENTERED OVER THE EASTERN CONUS THIS WEEKEND INTO EARLY
NEXT WEEK. A WARMER AIRMASS WILL SPREAD INTO THE REGION ALONG WITH
THE RIDGE. AS A RESULT ABOVE NORMAL HIGHS ARE EXPECTED AS
TEMPERATURES WARM BACK INTO THE 90S ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA THIS
WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. THE DRY AIRMASS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE
OVER THE REGION THROUGH SATURDAY. THEN MOISTURE WILL START TO
SLOWLY RETURN ACROSS THE AREA LATE THIS WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK.
THERE ARE NO REAL GOOD SIGNALS FOR WIDESPREAD RAINFALL ACROSS THE
AREA DURING THIS TIME...BUT WITH INCREASED MID LEVEL MOISTURE AND
WARMER SURFACE TEMPERATURES...AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO CANNOT BE
COMPLETE RULED OUT LATE THIS WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.
HOWEVER...WILL LEAVE THE FORECAST DRY AT THIS TIME AS THE BETTER
POTENTIAL SHOULD LIKELY REMAIN TO THE SOUTH WHERE BETTER MOISTURE
IS EXPECTED TO RESIDUE.

AN UPPER LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL PUSH ACROSS THE NORTHERN
PLAINS DURING THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK...WHICH SHOULD FLATTEN THE
RIDGE ENOUGH TO ALLOW A COLD FRONT TO PUSH SOUTH INTO THE REGION BY
THURSDAY. THIS FRONT COULD BE THE FOCUS FOR SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE REGION FROM WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY.
